Lisa's Story

Life After ROHS I went on to college, graduated from University of San Diego with a Business degree, went on to get my M.B.A. at USD, moved to Beverly Hills, became an executive recruiter for the advertising industry, grew out of it after three years, went back to college and took all the postgraduate classes in Broadcast Journalism at San Diego State, got hired as a newswriter at the ABC affiliate in San Diego, six months later took a producer gig at the NBC affiliate in Sacramento, four years later took a special projects producer position at KCAL (when it was owned by Disney) in LA, was promoted to executive producer, held that for three years, fell in love along the way with a guy named Hank Ellis and married him in Hawaii when I was 39, left KCAL after Disney sold it, went on...Expand for more
to produce programs for Lifetime, Discovery, Travel Channel, Food Network, Paramount and others. Won 100 journalism and television awards, including 16 Emmys. Grew to hate the biz. Left it about a year and a half ago, changed careers again, enrolled at UCLA in the interior design program, will graduate yet again Summer of 2005, hired as a design associate working on David Hyde Pierce's house. Finished that gig. Am now trying to stay unemployed so I can get the hell out of school and go into commercial design. My life has been an incredible adventure, but truth be told, I've spent it working my ass off. Some days I feel 17, others, 77. We don't have kids, but my little sis, Karen, who is now a widow, has three kids: Avery 12; Miles; 13 and Connor, 14. I love them like my own.
